Carys Evans and her women

November 6, 2017 0 Comments

Just over a year since her last solo show in Swansea Carys Evans has another, in the Kooywood Gallery in Cardiff.  Again there are around forty paintings – large and small, on canvas and board, in oils, mixed media and pastel.  A dominant theme runs through many of them – the lives of women.  Not so much the public or visible aspects of their experience, but rather their internal lives, always obscured or withheld.  Silent at a table, sheltering under an umbrella, half hidden behind a washing line, women gaze and consider.  In other pictures are other lives – of plums, fish and lemons.  They, too, might have a quiet story to tell, if we could be attentive enough.

The exhibition is on at the Kooywood Gallery, Museum Place, Cardiff until Saturday 2 December 2017.  You can see images of most of the works on Carys’s website.
